Supply Chain

Supply Chain Operations Management

Operations Management traditionally focused on how to best allocate the scarce resources of labour, machinery, material, money, information and time for a given business entity using both quantitative and qualitative tools, technique and approaches. With the new Supply Chain Operations Management (SCOM) major, this focus shifts from the unit enterprise to the entire supply chain with all its stakeholders. Hence, integration along the supply chain is a pivotal theme of this major.

The courses in the discipline cover the modelling and managerial aspects of forecasting, production planning, scheduling, inventory management, logistics and technology management along the supply chain. These courses are then followed by a graduation project course that emphasizes the integration theme in a real-life manufacturing or service environment. Case studies, simulation games, field trips and guest speakers from industry and business are all part of course delivery in the SCOM major, exposing the students to current and leading edge supply chain practices.
